After Your Surgery

Printable Version (PDF)

Inpatient Surgery

After your surgery, you will be taken to the recovery room where you will be monitored. If you are having inpatient surgery, you will be transferred to a hospital room where your family and friends can visit. The length of your hospital stay will depend on the type of surgery you are having, your overall health and the amount of time it takes for you to recover. When your pain is manageable and you are able to eat, you can go home and continue your recovery.

  • Be sure to have someone available to drive you.
  • Before leaving the hospital, Dr. Morris will tell you when you need to be seen in the office.

Outpatient Surgery

If you are having outpatient surgery, you can go home as soon as you are released from the recovery room.

  • Someone should be available to drive you home.
  • You will need to call our office and make your post-op appointment. Dr. Morris usually likes to see you for this post-op within 2 weeks.

Both inpatients and outpatients should get out of bed and walk around the evening following surgery. This movement will help prevent blood clotting and respiratory problems.
