Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic Surgery | Procedures:

Defined

Laparoscopic surgery is known by many names; minimally invasive surgery, laser surgery and endoscopic surgery. Specifically, laparoscopic surgery is videoscopic surgery of the abdomen. Using videoscopic techniques, Dr. Sheri Morris makes a few small cuts in the abdomen, rather than a long, open incision.

She inserts long, pencil-thin instruments and a narrow telescope camera into these smaller openings, and this process allows them to view their work on a monitor. With these slender and delicate instruments, Dr. Morris is able to cut and remove tissue, stop bleeding and as in a hernia repair, suture mesh into place. She can even remove organs such as the gallbladder, spleen or part of the colon.

The Advantages of Laparoscopy Are Well-Documented

  • less scarring
  • less post-operatic pain
  • less time in the hospital, and
  • a faster return to normal activities
